Nice Video on BioFuels

Just finished watching a very cool vid on Biofuels from UC… Seems like a decent primer on the subject.

Is this thing on?

So I’ve been in the midst of some major changes and won’t be able to make RobotFest after all. Tom has told me that at least 3 folks had signed up for the iGEM program as of last wednesday. Remember to get signed up if you want to get some hands on experience with technique and tools as well as familiarity with the field before beginning your own experiments. The BioBrick and various enzymes are available to purchase as well and you can order your specific parts once you get familiar with the techniques.

Involvement in iGEM will require attendance of one of the Lab orientations. There’s one on the 1st of May and one on the 18th. Contact Tom Burkett after signing up for more details.

Idea for BioRemediation of Potomac River

http://www.fredericknewspost.com/sections/art_life/display.htm?StoryID=96873

The inability of local water plants to remove endocrine disrupting hormones from the water treatments, has brought forth intersex bass in the Potomac River. Perhaps there is a way to create a microbe to bind with excess hormones such as estrogen to capture or transform the disruptors. Anyone have any ideas on how we might proceed? Could be in humanities best interest to clean this stuff up before we enter a Children of Man scenario.

Already practicing with the search functions of the standard parts registry and find that there are 3 Estrogen Promoters listed..
